Child Passenger Safety & Car Seat Checks
Fork Fire Department is proud to have three certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and serve as a permanent Child Passenger Safety Checking Station. Our department is committed to helping parents and caregivers ensure children are properly secured while traveling in a vehicle.
Our certified technicians can assist families with understanding proper car seat installation, selecting the appropriate child safety restraint based on a child’s age, height, and weight, and recognizing when it is time to transition from a rear-facing seat to a forward-facing seat, booster seat, or vehicle seat belt. Proper installation and use of child safety seats are important steps in reducing the risk of injury during a motor vehicle accident.
Child passenger safety requirements and recommendations can change as children grow. We encourage parents, grandparents, and caregivers to stay informed about current safety guidelines and North Carolina child passenger safety laws. Whether you are preparing for a new baby, transitioning to a different car seat, or simply want to confirm your child’s current seat is installed correctly, our department is here to help.
